00:29:45 kakobrekla: dat dude...

00:30:15 mircea_popescu: lol

00:33:48 Tritonio: So, as a noob in asset markets I come back with a few questions. 1. Isn't the purpose of an IPO to see how much the market is willing to pay? You list for example 1000 shares and then you wait 2 weeks or so for offers. When the IPO is over you start fullfilling orders starting with the highest price per share and going towards the lowest. Did I say something wrong till now?

00:35:24 mircea_popescu: yes.

00:35:42 mircea_popescu: an ipo is just that, an initial public offering. it can fulfill any purpose the entity doing it wishes fulfilled.

00:35:55 mircea_popescu: just as long as it's public, an offering and initial it qualifies.

00:36:06 Namworld: What do you guys think of the latest SD type game, coinroll?

00:36:15 mircea_popescu: haven't seen it myself

00:36:36 Namworld: https://coinroll.it/

00:36:58 mircea_popescu: meh.

00:37:18 Namworld: 0 confirmation, but semi-account based. You don't actually register.

00:37:57 Namworld: Well no fee on each bet is a plus.

00:38:16 Namworld: But doesn't bring much that SD wasn't already providing.

00:38:23 mircea_popescu: yeah

00:38:46 mircea_popescu: basically i don't see anything to set it aside from the whatever, 50 others ?

00:39:37 Tritonio: Thanks mircea. Second question: If I issue 1000 shares, does each share equal 1/1000th of the company? Or can I state in the contract that shares in total acount for, let's say, 51% of the company?

00:40:57 Namworld: Eh, well it's slightly different and elegant. But it's pretty much the same as all the other clones, yeah.

00:41:31 mircea_popescu: Tritonio contract always rules. look at some mpex contracts, bitbet for instance ipod 3mn out of a total of 10

00:41:54 mircea_popescu: mpoe initially offered 1mn out of 1bn shares, then on a 2nd pass offered another 4mn

00:42:05 Namworld: Where can I see the April statement for MPOE?

00:42:15 mircea_popescu: http://polimedia.us/fraudsters/2013/mpoe-april-2013-statement/

00:42:31 Namworld: thank you

00:43:57 Tritonio: mircea_popescu, When you offer that another 4mn during the second pass, are the old shares "diluted" or it works like if the second pass shares were owned by the issuer from the beginning?

00:44:24 mircea_popescu: well it can work either way. in this case it worked without dilution.

00:46:21 Tritonio: To work with dillution I suppose you would have to issue more shares, which, depending on the contract, usually needs shareholders agreeing to that, right? Although I am not sure why would they agree to getting dilluted. Unless the expect the company's net worth to rise a lot more (because of the revenue from the sale of the new shares) than the dilution.

00:46:56 mircea_popescu: let's take this apart.

00:47:40 mircea_popescu: to dillute you always issue more shares. this is to be done by whoever has the authority to do it.

00:47:47 Namworld: Yeah, but in this case, it works as profit share. Each share of 1 billion in IPO contract has rights to 1/1'000'000'000 of profits.

00:47:52 mircea_popescu: if the shares vote, then the shareholders do it. if the shares don't vote then the operator does it

00:47:58 Namworld: He's not issuing more shares, he's selling more

00:48:27 mircea_popescu: now, why would someone agree to be diluted, well, it depends. suppose you have a kid and your wife wants another one.

00:48:43 mircea_popescu: will the kid agree to be diluted ? maybe not. then again maybe he wants a brother/sister.

00:48:56 mircea_popescu: can go either way.

00:51:00 Tritonio: So if the operator is the one with the right to issue more shares, he could issue them without asking, and possibly decide to keep them all to himself if the contract doesn't prohibit that. Of course he would fuck up the company and everyone would probably sell their shares and leave but I mean if the contract doesn't stop him, he would be basically running away with the shareholders' money.

00:52:49 Namworld: IDK, usually it's either ask for issuing more shares (like mining companies to buy more stuff)

00:52:58 Tritonio: Namworld, that's my understanding too. The shared already existed in this case and were held by the issuer/operator and he sold more of them in the second pass. I suppose this also means that the operator was getting a bigger portion of the profits of the company before the second pass.

00:53:00 assbot: [HAVELOCK] [HIM] 1 @ 1.9449 BTC [+]

00:53:20 Tritonio: (The shares*)

00:53:48 Namworld: Or a preset issued amount, like x million total. Issuer can sell any portion he wants. That's usually for pre-established businesses that don't need to fund acquisitions or whatever.

00:54:12 Namworld: I never saw something different yet

00:55:05 Tritonio: Namworld, the second case is btc-mining's case?

00:58:42 Namworld: That would have been a first case

00:59:38 ezdiy: Tritonio: in that case it equals to non-voting class of shares

00:59:48 ezdiy: Tritonio: ie you're at full mercy of issuer

01:00:00 Tritonio: I thought the idea of the 40% reinvestement was to avoid issuing more shares if not needed..

01:01:51 ezdiy: another favourite scam is to issue new shares, under new company which asset strips the old one

01:01:59 ezdiy: favourite tunneling technique of capital markets

01:03:42 Namworld: What's with the "you will be bankrupt" comment... arf

01:04:04 Namworld: Bondholders lose/gains from Options profit/loss

01:06:14 mircea_popescu: hm ?

01:10:40 KRS-1: she aight..boobs are just a bit too big or misshaped

01:10:59 KRS-1: i use mirc which one do you use

01:11:30 mircea_popescu: why'd it be crashing ?

01:11:45 Jambo__: because it's the crash mcmaster

01:12:12 KRS-1: i see gradual dips to nothingness..then a big BOOOOOM...until it lowers to a stable long term price..thats what im thinking..this is a bouncing cat maybe?

01:13:49 KRS-1: tulip scared me a bit

01:14:23 KRS-1: those are a little big for my liking though..i'm down with the B cup..a nice full B.

01:14:48 Jambo__: KRS, why you think nothingness?

01:16:21 KRS-1: from what i learned markets can boom and tulip..or bouncing cat rising then coming up lower each time to a low low...then somehow reinvestment kindles another boom and then market price settles..this is from what i understand the evolution pattern an investment takes if it doesnt die

01:16:38 KRS-1: i think there are other patterns but i also may be wrong, im still learning quite a bit

16:18:17 ThickAsThieves: how much markup can you get away with

16:18:17 Chaang-Noi: yes it does

16:19:10 Chaang-Noi: people who dont ahve btc cant but these... but people can use credit cards on ebay

16:20:19 Chaang-Noi: yeah, im not going to do it, but some one could

16:20:23 mircea_popescu: ie, you buy 500, manage to sell 50 at 200% markup and sell 150 remaindered at 50% loss

16:20:24 Chaang-Noi: and im sure will

16:22:37 Chaang-Noi: yeah, just buy the stock

16:23:11 mircea_popescu: actually it's funny, but it seems to me stock is oversold in about the same proportion as the retail product is overpriced.

22:01:30 mjr___: an easy way of all keeping track of what orders you have out etc

22:01:49 mjr___: basically, a website optimized for a mobile device, where you can update your orders quickly

22:01:51 mircea_popescu: aha

22:01:58 mircea_popescu: so api ?

22:02:00 assbot: [BTCTC] [S.MPOE-PT] 3 @ 0.00064 = 0.0019 BTC [-]

22:02:04 assbot: [BTCTC] [S.MPOE-PT] 80 @ 0.000636 = 0.0509 BTC [-]

22:02:14 assbot: [BTCTC] [S.MPOE-PT] 20 @ 0.000625 = 0.0125 BTC [-]

22:02:17 assbot: [BTCTC] [S.MPOE-PT] 5 @ 0.000625 = 0.0031 BTC [-]

22:02:18 mjr___: should have API, but at the same time...it is cash settled immediateely

22:02:20 assbot: [BTCTC] [S.MPOE-PT] 10 @ 0.00061 = 0.0061 BTC [-]

22:02:22 mjr___: so bots can't really do well

22:02:30 assbot: [BTCTC] [S.MPOE-PT] 332 @ 0.000606 = 0.2012 BTC [-]

22:02:35 mjr___: we are not clearing or settling

22:02:39 mjr___: that is entirely p2p

22:02:48 mjr___: for example:

22:03:02 mjr___: i have maybe 20 people meeting in union square on monday at 4pm

22:03:17 mjr___: i want to give them a site where they can advertise their prices

22:03:30 mjr___: as well as update those prices in basically real time

22:03:41 assbot: [BTCTC] [BTC-BOND] 50 @ 0.0101 = 0.505 BTC [+]

22:03:51 mjr___: so as people join us in the park, they know our local best bid and ask

22:04:01 mjr___: and they can place an order in front of it if they want

22:04:11 mjr___: but if you find someone, you "match" in real life

22:04:20 mjr___: not using the website

22:04:41 mjr___: i might place a "hold" feature on the site, so you can show that someone is taking an offer or a bid

22:05:00 assbot: [BTCTC] [BTC-BOND] 50 @ 0.00999 = 0.4995 BTC [-]

22:05:06 mjr___: it will also convert all orders into denomminations of $10 or $20

22:05:11 mjr___: since change is a hassle in fiat

22:05:25 mjr___: so $20 = x bitcoins

22:06:19 mjr___: hopefully then, when people update their order to show that they have closed a sale, it will generate a print on our tape

22:06:24 assbot: [BTCTC] [BTC-BOND] 50 @ 0.00999 = 0.4995 BTC [-]

22:06:26 mjr___: so we will have market data

22:06:56 mjr___: basically it is trying to maintain a level 2 book in real time synched across 20 mobile devices

22:07:14 assbot: [BTCTC] [BTC-BOND] 50 @ 0.0101 = 0.505 BTC [+]

22:07:16 mjr___: going to use what is called a MEAN stack

22:07:27 mjr___: mongodb, express, angularjs, nodejs

22:07:44 mircea_popescu: hm

22:07:52 mjr___: should be very easy to implement, so if philadelphians or chicagoans want to duplicate it, they could easily

22:07:57 mircea_popescu: well document how it works irl.

22:08:08 mjr___: yes of course

22:08:12 assbot: [BTCTC] [BTC-BOND] 50 @ 0.00999 = 0.4995 BTC [-]

22:08:15 mjr___: not one line of code written yet

22:08:21 mjr___: but i think i can have it up by monday

22:08:44 mjr___: simply a tool, to help facilitate real life transactions

22:09:14 assbot: [BTCTC] [BTC-BOND] 50 @ 0.00999 = 0.4995 BTC [-]

22:10:05 mjr___: i think version 1 will be rough, but then we can add geolocation, so if someone isn't there, their orders will be grayed out (as they couldn't be acted upon anywy)

22:11:12 assbot: [BTCTC] [BTC-BOND] 200 @ 0.0101 = 2.02 BTC [+]
