08:48:38 punkman: o hey ripple tripled
08:50:53 punkman: bithumb of course
09:04:33 punkman: "A snapshot will be taken of the Bitcoin blockchain at block height #498,777 (around 12 o’clock on December 12, 2017). Addresses that have been active in the last 30 days will receive the equivalent amount of UnitedBitcoin after the fork"
10:44:39 pankkake: tried to sell the few XRP I have left but I can't make a transfer despite leaving >20 XRP in the wallet. maybe if I could remove those old trust lines but it doesn't work
10:44:54 pankkake: they replaced the old crappy web wallet by a new crappy web wallet
10:46:33 kakobrekla: last time i checked they wanted personal information
10:46:43 kakobrekla: maybe to verify phone number or something
10:46:49 kakobrekla: but that was long time ago
10:56:30 pankkake: they still want to, it's like some sort of annoying popup
10:56:44 pankkake: but I wanted to send my XRP to shapeshift which requires nothing
10:57:16 pankkake: lol at even calling this a cryptocurrency
13:29:13 kakobrekla: ;;bc,convert eur
13:29:13 gribble: Error: Problem retrieving data.
13:29:16 kakobrekla: ok
17:54:16 adlai: asciilifeform: ty for including me in the notifications again! my lack of response is mostly due to not having anything worthwhile to say, other than "i read your drafts and have nothing intelligent to say, having not compiled&run&stuff yet"
18:29:48 kakobrekla: as far as i understand tether is not required to do evil
18:30:41 adlai: no, but for good people to do evil - that requires tether
18:31:01 adlai: cf dpb, rms, etc
18:31:28 adlai: rpm?
18:31:52 adlai: er, rtm. old tlas die hard.
18:32:05 punkman: ;;ticker
18:32:05 gribble: Bitstamp BTCUSD ticker | Best bid: 18700.01, Best ask: 18723.11, Bid-ask spread: 23.10000, Last trade: 18700.01, 24 hour volume: 9468.85856409, 24 hour low: 17111.0, 24 hour high: 18866.66, 24 hour vwap: 17937.47
18:34:51 kakobrekla: your abbreviations are aberrational
18:35:32 adlai: not my folt that some bofh said "free kars enuf for all"
18:39:12 punkman: and it's gone https://twitter.com/Bitfinexed/status/942072592512569344
18:49:12 kakobrekla: its been almost 10 years (fuck i feel old now) and the infrastructure is still fucking shit.
18:50:14 kakobrekla: what that be?
18:51:30 punkman: FUD bot
18:52:55 adlai: punkman: what "bfx data" is gone exactly? afair, that site only did display of data that was available by API? i guess they had an archive, maybe that's still around?
18:53:08 adlai: (not like archival data of central bucket shops means anything, eh)
18:55:25 adlai: god damn idiots outside, yelling "the people want social justice". they could at least learn what words mean and yell "economic" instead, but no, it has to be a catchy slogan.
18:55:47 adlai: (israelis are really pissed at king bibi and his 119 henchmen)
18:57:12 *: adlai would sentence them all to mandatory mrrobot marathonning, but then they'd all turn into film students and what would we have accomplished!?
18:58:42 kakobrekla: lol
19:19:14 asciilifeform: http://log.bitcoin-assets.com/?date=16-12-2017#1479228 << lemme know if this was because you had problem getting a working compiler , a bunch of folx with various defective gcc wrote in
19:19:14 assbot: Logged on 16-12-2017 17:54:16; adlai: asciilifeform: ty for including me in the notifications again! my lack of response is mostly due to not having anything worthwhile to say, other than "i read your drafts and have nothing intelligent to say, having not compiled&run&stuff yet"
19:40:00 adlai: asciilifeform: i managed to compile something back in, er... may? "i don't know i was drunk at the time". will give a serious readthrough once i have the quanta of action that it deserves.
19:40:26 adlai: for the heathens, that translates as "enough time AND energy"
19:40:47 *: adlai is still busy not-failing out of kindergarden
19:41:36 adlai: unfortunately, mustering the weekend sanity to survive weekdays of schorture is a full-time sentence.
19:41:51 asciilifeform: whatcha studying, adlai ?
19:42:04 adlai: do you want the bureaucratic answer, or my clever twist?
19:42:10 asciilifeform: either
19:43:24 adlai: asciilifeform: registered under "khimia khad-khugit tokhnit mekhkarit lemitztayinim" (i can try translating if necessary), but my go-to answer these days is "biophysics"
19:44:01 adlai: incredibly hard to resist crossing the bridge (literally) to the engineering faculties, but that would involve more years of study before they print the thingy
19:45:43 adlai: imagine a 2d plane; x-hat points at the natural scientist, beagling along with a notebook full of sketches; y-hat points at the lhc. you are biophysics, and sqrt(2) is alchemy.
19:48:03 adlai: my current research project - funded by time alone, with no deadline in sight - is determining whether CWE works for separating binders&fillers from medicine
19:48:43 asciilifeform: meth rots brain, adlai , have moderation
19:49:06 adlai: who said anything about the alpha carbon!?
19:49:59 adlai: my current moral dilemma is whether my lab partner deserves to pass the lab... i guess it's out of my control since he covers his own ass well enough. but at least he's not getting a good grade without putting some effort in :D
19:50:46 asciilifeform: everybody who did ochem at uni saw their fair share of these.
19:51:06 adlai: this is just gchem, though.
19:51:23 adlai: it's almost amusing how my professors and i play the "adlai isn't interested in ochem" game
19:51:42 adlai: my (true!) cover story is that i am interested in computation, but hate silicon.
19:52:28 adlai: my hobby is getting kicked out of the music building, because apparently pianos are built to be seen, not heard.
19:53:45 adlai: and that lab - not even gchem. it's the 2nd-year physics lab. physics labs, for stupid reasons (not enough money!) are done in pairs. chem labs, from year 1, are done alone.
19:54:19 adlai: i think they think we learn how to work together, or meet future spouses, or teach eachother matlab, or something. it's a really stupid system.
19:55:27 asciilifeform: ~all experimental folk work in close quarters with others, adlai , it isn't terribly wrong imho to inflict this on student
19:55:48 adlai: chem labs are done in very close quarters - ~30 students in the room, 2-3 to a 'bench'
19:56:01 adlai: but all the work and reporting is individual
19:56:21 asciilifeform: same as where asciilifeform and probably everybody else on whole planet went to school.
